Stefano Corgnati is the new Rector of the Politecnico

Stefano Paolo Corgnati will lead the Politecnico di Torino for the next six years.

 

Corgnati, born in 1973, graduated with honors in Mechanical Engineering and PhD in Energetics, is Full Professor of Technical Environmental Physics at the Energy Department “Galileo Ferraris” (TEBE research group) of the Politecnico.

A former member of the Board of Directors of Politecnico di Torino, he served as Vice Rector for Research under the lead of Gilli, a role later confirmed in 2018 by Rector Saracco, with a change of delegation in 2021 to Internal Policies, and Chairman of the Employer Party Delegation on the Labor Negotiation table; he coordinated the Interdepartmental Centers Commission, the Contracts-Agreements-Participated Entities Commission and the Regulations Commission. Related to University initiatives, formerly on the Executive Committee of the Energy Centre and the Advisory Board of the China Centre, he is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Energy Security and Transition Lab.

Corgnati also has administrative experience as mayor of the Municipality of Livorno Ferraris (VC) for two terms, from 2013 to 2023, and has held numerous positions in LINKS Foundation (by Politecnico di Torino and Compagnia di San Paolo), Center for Circular Economy in Coffee (sponsored by Lavazza Foundation), Center for Federalism Studies Foundation of Compagnia di San Paolo, Copernicus Academy Consortium and UNIVER Consortium.

He teaches technical physics and building energy design and is the author of more than 450 scientific and technical publications on the topics of indoor environmental comfort and quality, high-performance and zero-energy buildings, energy systems for buildings, and the effect of user behavior on building consumption, developed through collaborations with numerous foreign universities, including as part of International Energy Agency activities. With reference to industry association activities, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Association on Air Conditioning AICARR from 2008 to 2013 and held several positions, including President in REHVA (European Federation on Air Conditioning) based in Brussels.

During the government headed by Mario Draghi, he was appointed as a member of the expert group of the Structure for Ecological Transition of Mobility and Infrastructure (STEMI) supporting the Ministry of Sustainable Mobility and Infrastructure.
