Just a few weeks ago, in the city of Lecce, in Southern Italy, the Salento Biomedical District was inaugurated. This newly established Open Innovations Lab promotes the transfer of innovation, training and dissemination of knowledge, in the fields of biomedical and nanotechnological research.

This large investment in Italy’s biomedical sector, made by Medtronic, an American multinational and amongst the global leaders in medical technology and healthcare services, was possible thanks to the ecosystem of innovation and fertile ground for international investments, catalyzed by the existing synergism between important Netval partners such as the l’Università del Salento, the CNR with l’Istituto di Nanotecnologia Cnr Nanotec and the Center for Biomolecular Nanotechnologies dell’Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (CBN – IIT Lecce).

The partnership established by Medtronic, who deals with high levels of technologies for the care and well-being of people, and the Italian Network, perfectly falls in line with what Knowledge Share is pursuing in the upcoming Tech Share Day event, which will take place from the 11th to the 13th November 2020. The event aimed at facilitating industry-academic collaborations, will consist of 7 interactive webinars in the Biomedical and Life Science sectors, showcasing more than 500 technologies, from biomolecules, to imaging, to medical devices, and medical information technology.

It is therefore a sector in turmoil in our country, which with the new biomedical innovation hub in Salento further strengthens the convergence between medicine and new technologies and increases the opportunities for knowledge transfer between entrepreneurs, researchers, innovators for growth and constant economic and technological development.
