Paolo Boccardelli is the new Rector of the LUISS University

Starting in June 26th 2024, Prof. Boccardelli will assume the role of the new Rector

 

The Board of Directors of Luiss Guido Carli University, upon the proposal of President Luigi Gubitosi, has appointed Professor Paolo Boccardelli to succeed Prof. Andrea Prencipe, who has reached the end of his second term.

The new rector will lead the Free International University of Social Studies for the three-year period 2024/2027.

Born in Rome, 52, an alumnus of the University, Boccardelli is Full Professor of Business Economics and Management and Business Strategies and directs the Research Center in Strategic Change “Franco Fontana” at Luiss. Previously, he was director of the Luiss Business School. With the appointment of Paolo Boccardelli, “Luiss Guido Carli renews its commitment to academic excellence, preparing to face the future challenges that await the world of higher education,” said President Luigi Gubitosi, who then thanked the outgoing Rector for his prestigious achievements.

Over the past six years, teaching and research have continued to be fundamental pillars for Luiss, with a constant focus on innovation and interdisciplinarity in the educational offerings and an intense activity of observatories and research centers, which have grown in number and academic prominence.

The University has, in fact, climbed the most important international rankings of higher education, confirming itself among the best 20 in the world and first in Italy for Political and International Studies according to the QS World University Ranking by Subjects 2024 survey, and taking 30th place globally for the Master’s Degree in “Management” in the latest Financial Times ranking (it was 90th in 2019).

The University has also consolidated its relationship with its reference ecosystem, starting with institutional partners, the corporate world and the Alumni network. Faculty relevance and influence is enriched by the contribution and experience of managers and professionals from companies, multinationals, law firms and public administration. A direct link with the labor market, where 96 percent of Luiss graduates find employment within the first twelve months after graduation.

“Luiss has been and is an important part of my life and I pick up this appointment with a deep sense of responsibility and excitement,” Boccardelli commented, thanking the BoD and Andrea Prencipe. “In picking up the baton, I will strive to further strengthen the role and prestige of Luiss in Italy and abroad, in close collaboration with my colleagues, the leadership of the University and Confindustria, well aware of the great role that Luiss plays as an institution in this country in the selection and development of the ruling class.”

Prof. Boccardelli has been director of Luiss Business School from 2015 to May 2022 and Dean for International Development of the school from 2011 to 2015. During his tenure, the school obtained Equis, AMBA accreditations and initiated AACSB accreditation. His main areas of research include: Enterprise Strategies, Resources and Dynamic Capabilities View, Institution-based View.

He is a member of the Expert Group of International Standing at the Australian Research Council.

Provost is a member of the EQUIS Committee and an expert in Equis and EFMD on quality services and processes for schools pursuing EQUIS accreditation. He is also a member of the International Advisory Board of Leeds University Business School, Universidad Pompeu Fabra – Barcelona School of Management and the University of Stavanger School of Business and Law and chair of the Scientific Committee of the Lars Magnus Ericsson Foundation.

Boccardelli has been an independent member of boards of directors of listed companies such as UBI Spa and Tim Spa and is currently an independent director of Banco BPM Spa.
