Bianca Graziano joins the Scientific Community of the Miami Scientific Italian Community

Dr. Bianca Graziano is an Italian M.D who recently completed her PhD at the University of Miami working in the lab of Dr. Laura Bianchi.

She obtained a medical degree in Italy at Universitá degli Studi di Milano in 2017. During her final year of medical school, she joined Dr. Fabio Ferrarelli’s lab in Pittsburgh as a visiting research scholar, where she engaged in sleep EEG studies focused on patients experiencing their first episode of psychosis.

Additionally, she conducted experiments combining Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) with EEG on the same patient group, aiming to identify early biological markers and indicators of psychosis progression and severity.

In 2019, Dr. Graziano started her PhD, during which she joined Dr. Laura Bianchi’s lab. Here, she has been investigating the role of KCNQ channels in glial cells using C. elegans as a model organism. Employing molecular biology techniques, along with Ca2+, GABA, voltage imaging, and behavioral studies, she focus on mutations linked to epilepsy and autism.

Her goal is to advance understanding of the mechanisms underlying KCNQ-related disorders and explore potential therapeutic strategies.
