Edoardo Bemporad is the new Director of Institute of Polymers, Composites and Biomaterials of the CNR

Edoardo Bemporad, Full Professor of Materials Science and Technology at the University of Rome 3, and a distinguished member of the International Advisory Board of the Miami Scientific Italian Community, has been appointed as the new Director of Institute of Polymers, Composites and Biomaterials (IPCB) – National Research Council of Italy (CNR)

Edoardo Bemporad is graduated in Nuclear Engineering and received a Ph.D. degree in Materials Engineering at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1995. He was employed at the Italian National Research Council (CNR) with a position as a Technology Transfer Specialist from 1991 to 1995 and then he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, University “Roma Tre”, where he become Full Professor in 2005.

Since 2018 he is a Consultant of the Italian Ministry of University and Research for EC Structural Funds and National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

He is an expert in the research fields of surface engineering, thin films technology, and nano-mechanical characterization of small-scale structures and micro-devices, author of more than 134 papers published in international and national journals and refereed conference proceedings with an h-index of 33 and more than 3290 citations. (BIO)

The Institute of Polymers, Composites and Biomaterials (IPCB) is the main research institute of the National Research Council (CNR) dedicated to the development of polymeric materials, composites and biomaterials, as well as biomacromolecules, green chemistry and chemistry for life sciences. Through a multidisciplinary approach, transversal skills are integrated, from synthesis to processing up to the validation in the relevant environment of innovative materials that are able to respond to the technological, economic, and environmental challenges in modern society.

The research activities of the Institute of Polymers, Composites and Biomaterials (IPCB) are:
– Polymers, Composites and Nanostructures (natural and / or synthetic) with engineered structural and functional properties;
– Multi-phase polymers, nanomaterials and nanostructures (natural and / or synthetic) for • Tissue engineering, • Regenerative / therapeutic medicine, • Drug delivery, • Biointerfaces, • Bioprinting;
– Structural characterizations of glycoproteins for the identification of biomarkers;
– Synthesis, functionalization, modeling and advanced characterizations of polymer-based materials;
– Advanced and sustainable transformation technologies of polymers, composites and nanostructures. Additive technologies;

They are organized into three main research platforms such as Sustainability, Advanced Materials, Health and Nanomedicine.
